Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens, better than Queen Latifah the US, is a performer and actress. The role of Queen Latifah on television, film and music has won numerous prizes. These include the Golden Globe Award two Screen Actors Guild Awards Two Image Awards A Grammy Award Additional Grammy Nominations An Emmy Award Nomination and an Academy Award. Queen Latifah is a Newark New Jersey native. Her parents were Lancelot Sr. as a police officer and Rita, a educator of Irvington High School. Latifah's parents divorced at the age of 10 years old. Latifah went to Catholic School in Newark, NJ and was educated in her family's Baptist Church. Latifah means gentle and very kind. Her mother gave it to her when she was 8. Always a tall girl at 5'10, Latifah was a power forward on the basketball team at her high school. in a school show, she performed the song Home from The Wiz. Latifah was the first to begin beatboxing for Ladies Fresh. Latifah used to be a member of Flavor Unit - a group of rappers who were gathered around the producer, DJ Mark the 45 king. Mark James aka DJ Mark the 45 King recorded an unreleased version of Queen Latifah's rap Princess of the Posse. He sent the recording to Yo! MTV Raps Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music was intrigued by the tune. It was signed by Latifah, and released her debut track Wrath of My Madness in 1988.
